WILLIAM E. MATTHEWS, JR. was born on November 13, 1949 at Bethesda Naval Hospital, Bethesda, Maryland. He was the oldest child of TVilliam 8., Sr. (deceased) and Larnita Matthews. William resided with his parents in Washington, D.C. until , the age of eleven when he moved to Ft. Lewis, Washington, along with his mother, sister and stepfather. He attended elementary school in Washington, D.C. continuing his high education in Ft. Lewis, Washington and ultimately graduating from the American High School in Frankfurt, Germany. He graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University, Salina, Kansas in 1972. William then moved to San Francisco, California, where he served as assistant editor for the Commonwealth of San Francisco newspaper and also, as a major speech writer for many noted and famous personalities. Bill, as he was more commonly known was instrumental in arranging students loans for many needy students. His volunteer work with community activities; his consistently pleasant personality and his ever-present willingness to serve his fellow man made him a very well-Liked and . respected individual among his peers, his co-workers and friends of all races, creeds and colors. Bill made his peaceful entry into his heavenly home 28 July 1989 in San Francisco, California. He will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Lanita Odom; one sister, Denise White of Willingboro, NJ; two uncles, John W. Harris of Brown Mills, NJ and Lawrence Harris of Washington, D.C.; two aunts, Deloris Scott and Elaine Chiles of Washington, D.C. and a host of cousins and friends. |
