Obituary Mrs. Sylvia Reed |
Mrs. Sylvia Reed was the third child born to the late James Marshall McCard and Frances Johnson McCard. She was born on June 19, 1921 in Washington, D.C., where she attended the D.C. public schools. As a young woman, Sylvia worked at various laundries before she started working at the Charles Hotel in Washington, D.C., where she met her beloved Algia Reed. They loved each other dearly. Sylvia and Al, as he was fondly called, were married for over 50 years before he passed away in 2007. No children were born from this union. Sylvia eventually retired from Catholic Charities. In retirement, she continued to enjoy spending time with family and friends.
Sylvia and Al enjoyed traveling and entertaining. She loved dressing up for parties and shows. Sylvia enjoyed playing cards with family members. She didn’t allow anything to bother her and would tell you in a minute, “I’m not worried about nothing.” She had a good heart and would help you out whenever she could. The entire time she was in the nursing home, Sylvia never complained about anything bothering her — not even at the end. Even when she was not feeling her best, she could always be found smiling. Sylvia loved to sit in the dining room whenever the nursing home had activities. During Sunday church services when people were singing, Sylvia had to be present and the staff knew it. If the staff did not see her, they would go to her room to get her because she truly enjoyed the service. “What a Blessing!” God truly blessed Sylvia with 92 years of a wonderful life.
Sylvia is survived by one sister, Annette M. (Carl) Swinney; many nieces and nephews; cousins and friends; a devoted cousin, Dolores H. (Claude) Scott; a cousin, Elaine Chiles; and a special friend, Teresa Armstrong.
Sylvia, we will miss you, but we will never forget you! |
