Obituary  Joyce Ann Sterling

Joyce Ann Sterling was born on the sixth day of June in 1946 to the late Rena McCard and Stephan Goodwin. She departed this life on July 13, 2012.

Joyce attended the District of Columbia Public Schools where she attended day and evening classes at Cardozo High School. She was employed by the United States Postal Service and retired after 41 years and six months of service.

She was thrilled to dress up in her beautiful outfits and fine jewelry and was very particular on how she looked when going out socializing with family and friends.

Joyce loved to travel and was an excellent cook. She loved to prepare food during social gatherings for family members and friends. She was known as the "Rock" and "Heart" of the family, the one who held everybody

together with her passionate ways and loving advice. Joyce was a very understanding and generous woman who always gave of herself whenever needed.

She brought a lot of laughter and joy with her anecdotes and good humor, to those who came to know her.

Joyce joined The New Macedonia Baptist Church several years ago and remained a faithful member until her health began failing. She was a member of the Hospitality Ministry and attended the Spiritual Hope Sunday

School.  Out of the union of marriages, Lynetta Toliver and Darnell Sterling were born.

She leaves to cherish her memory: two children, Lynetta and Darnell; four siblings, Brenda Goodwin, Eric Goodwin, Wayne Goodwin and Tracy Stapleton; four grandchildren, Dana Sterling, Alga Sterling, Darnell, Jr. and Terrell Sterling; two great-grandchildren, Keontay Sterling and Aniya Sterling; four nieces, Kimberly Goodwin, Rena Goodwin, Chanei Goodwin and Jasmine Calvin; two nephews, Kevin Goodwin and James Washington; three devoted friends, Marilyn Herald, Rita Redder and Ann Brown; and a host of other relatives and friends.
