Obituary  Jerry Wayne Chiles, Sr.

Jerry Wayne Chiles, Sr. was born on July 23, 1946 in Johnson City, Tennessee to Emma young Chiles and the late John Chiles, Sr. Jerry peacefully and quietly departed this life on Saturday, August, 26, 2006 at the VA Medical Center in Washington, DC.

 

Jerry accepted Christ at an early age at St. Paul A. M. E. Zion Church in Johnson City, Tennessee. After the family moved to Washington, DC he attended Friendship Baptist Church. He was active in Sunday school and on the junior usher board. Jerry was gifted and talented and attended Phelps Vocational High School where he excelled in auto mechanics. In 1964 Jerry joined the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, Jerry worked for the United States Postal Service. He recognized his true gift and passion and taught auto mechanics at the Lincoln Technical Institute. There he taught his students how to effectively use their minds and hands in order to have a successful life. Jerry was known for being outspoken and clever. After a long bout with cancer, Jerry succumbed to his illness which was associated with his exposure to the Agent Orange chemical that was used in Vietnam.

 

Jerry leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Michelle; 3 sons, Maurice Jerry, Jr., and Kenny; daughter Jerri grandson, Jerry III, his mother, Emma; 3 brothers, Samuel, John, Jr. (Diana), and David, Sr. (Margaret) aunts Hazel and Barbara (Richard), uncle Samuel (Mildred) a host of nieces, Netnews, cousins and friends.
