TRUSTEE JAMES ARTHUR CHILES, SR. Trustee James Arthur Chiles, Sr. departed this life on Monday, October 18, 1993 at Washington Adventist Hospital after a long illness. Born July 26, 1926 in Waynesville, North Carolina to the late Samuel and Essie Chiles. He was educated in the Public School System of Waynesville, North Carolina. He also attended Tennessee State, Howard University and Oklahoma University. He came to Washington, D.C. in the early 1940's and was a long time member and trustee of Friendship Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Postal Set-vice after forty-two years of dedication as a computer specialist and consultant. He was a pianist for Friendship Baptist Church. He was known for his kindness and never ending patience. He was always available to lend a helping hand to his fellow man. Even in his illness he always found time for his family and friends. He enjoyed life as well as traveling. He loved a good meal and we will never forget his triumphant smile each time he discovered a new restaurant. He is survived by his loving wife: Helena Talley Chiles; daughter: Tonya Talley Harris; five children from a previous marriage: Janice Chiles Williams, Angela (Brandi) Samuels Owens, James A. Chiles Jr., Sandra L. Chambers, and Clifford W. Chiles; one brother, Samuel D. Chiles; one sister, Ethel Ervin; thirteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; two daughters-in-law: Suzette Chiles and Deborah Chiles; one son-in-law: William Harris; four sisters-in-law, and two brothers-in-law as well as a host of relatives, friends and the Friendship Baptist Church family.
