Helena Delores Chiles, departed this life on Monday, December 5, 1994, at Washington Hospital Center after a lengthy battle with cancer. Helena was a native Washingtonian, born June, 17,1935. She was a graduate of Cardozo High School and received a nursing degree from Martha Washington, September, 1956 and continued her education at Washington Technical Institute. She began her nursing career at Freedman's Hospital. Her interest and love for the elderly led her to Manor Care Nursing Home and finally Washington Adventist Nursing Home where she satisfied her longing to provide compassionate quality health care for the elderly. Helena accepted Christ at an early age and was a longstanding member of the New Bethel Christ of God in Christ. She was a member of the Pastor's Aid Club, Senior Choir, Missionary Board, and President of the Nurse's Unit. Helena enjoyed shopping, travelling, good meals, and entertaining family and friends in her home. Most of all she had a strong belief in God. Those who shared her life will remember her as an outspoken firm but loving individual. She is survived by her daughter Tonya Talley Harris, Granddaughter, La'Tasha Thompkins Harris; two sisters, Margaret Gonsalves, and twin Shirley Shaw; two brothers, Richard and Donald Holley, one son in-law, William C. Harris; two sisters-in-law, Lois and Louise Holley, two brothers-in-law, Alfonza Shaw and Samuel Chiles, also through her ur-don with the James A. Chiles, Sr., five step-children James Jr., Clifford and Sandra Chiles, Angela Owens and Janice Williams. Also survived by godmother, Queen Session, as well as a host of relatives and friends. |
