Obituary Emma Chiles Ashton

We gained a guardian angel on Monday, August 12, 2002, when Emma Chiles Ashton transitioned to her eternal home at 4:35 pm at the Future Care Pineview Nursing Home in Clinton Maryland. Mama was born on October 17, 1908 to loving parents Caleb and Emma Games Chiles She was the third oldest child who helped in raising six younger siblings (James John Caleb Willie Nina and Clyde due to her mother's death. of the nine children Ida Lee Cochran, Sloan James, John Caleb and Clyde Chiles preceded her in death. Mama attended the public school system in Greenwood South Carolina She came to Washing" D C. in 1932 at the early age of 24, and joined the Tenth Street Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend or. J. L. Henry, She served faithfully in various church activities until she was invited Sister Luella Wright Smith to Fellowship with the Third Street Church of God Mama always believed that her introduction to Third was under the leading of the Lord she was blessed in many ways, including eventually meeting the love of her life the fate Deacon Joseph D Ashton. And as fate would have it, the Tenth Street Baptist Church became history after lengthy courtship; Mama and Dad were joined in holy matrimony on January 9, 1960. They built their marriage upon their love for God and each other Extensive travel became apart of their fives, however the Church of God camp Grounds in West Middle Pennsylvania was a point of annual spiritual retreat and recreation Mama & Dad traveled the high 'Seas" as well as the continent of Africa, and the Hawaiian & Bahamian Islands. Won; spent time enjoying fishing with Dad and other member of their fishing crew. A boat would be chartered a date was set, lunch was prepared the Night before, and off they went at 4:00 am the next day. They would Return home around 10 p.m. with 3 to 4 extremely large black Leather bag filled with fish then the fun began . . . . Cleaning the fish.

Mama was a pillar the community always helping the less fortunate Tor many years she was certified as a how health care provider for Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington D.C.

Mama was a faithful servant at the Third Street church of God a Missionary Usher Vm6erof the Visitation Team Women of the Church of God, Ordinances Services (Chair) Gospel choir, Fellow ship Group Prayer Band Silent Workers Sunday School and the' senior Ringers

Mama Lived consecrated life before God and her family for over 60 years and never abandoned her faith and commitment to Christ Second only to her love for her Lord, Mama deeply loved ME her grandchildren great grand and great great grandchildren.

Emma Chiles Ashton is survived a loving and devoted daughter, Luvenia I Hodges (John) two step sons, Benjamin Ashton (Millie) and Wilbert Ashton one brother; Willie Chiles one sister Nina M Goode, 3 devoted grand daughters, Gilbretta Ashton Jones Jackie Tate, Marcia Dial Kimbrough 21 grandchildren 24 great grandchil8 great great grandchildren a favorite me ,; Johnnie Ways ,f she raised, other nieces, great nieces nephews, great nephews a host of other relatives and friends mom also [eaves behind beloved girlfriends Sisters Rozena Marsha;; and Carolyn Reed and the Visitation Team which was very dear to her heart..
