Obituary Carlene Romaine (Swinney) Ferguson |
Carlene Romaine (Swinney) Ferguson was born on January 3, 1949 in Washington, DC. She was the second-born child of Carl and Annette Swinney. Carlene was a resident of Washington, DC while growing up. She attended Parkview and Barnard Elementary School, McFarland Junior High and graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1966. After graduating from high school, she attended business school. Carlene's first job was working for Western Electric. She later worked as a legal assistant at several well known law firms. She also worked for the District of Columbia Government, and finally spent her last years of employment working for the U.S. postal Service, where she retired in 2003.
Carlene married Lawrence James Ferguson (the love of her life) on September 7, 1968 at the age of 19. Lawrence was in the Air Force when they married and they were relocated to Tucson, Arizona to live on base. While living in Arizona, they often travelled to Mexico and California and had lots of fun.
After Lawrence resigned from the Air Force in 1970, they returned to the Washington, DC area and settled into a home in Maryland. On September 27, 1977, they were blessed with the birth of their twin sons, Lawrence and Terrence. Carlene was a devoted mother and along with her husband, instilled many of life's lessons into their children including the importance of hard work, a strong family, enjoying life, and loving the Lord.
Sadly in June of 1994 after a long illness, her husband passed away. At this time, Carlene felt a strong calling to serve the Lord. She attended Bible College and later became a minister at Salem Baptist Church where she served the Lord with gladness.
On November 21st, after a prolonged illness, Carlene rested from her labor and went home to be with the Lord. She leaves to cherish her memory - her two loving sons: Lawrence (Trina) and Terrence (Eve); two sisters. Linda Satterthwaite (James) and Pam Hooker (Frank); her brother: Carl Swinney, Jr. (Diamarie); five grandchildren: Christian, Lillian, Emerald, Sage and Caylin (on the way); a brother-in-law. Charles Ferguson (Sylvia); a sister-in-law. Sylvia Bouleware; an uncle: Lorenzo Dennis (Joyce); an aunt: Sylvia Reed; and many nieces and nephews. |
