Virginia Mae (Windfield) Baker was born on December 6, 1924 in
Suffolk, Virginia. Her parents were the late Viola (Bledsoe) and Samuel Windfleld. She departed this life on July 11, 2001 at
the Raleigh Community Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her parents
moved to Zebulon, North Carolina where she attended the Wakefield Zebulon
School which later changed to the James E. Shepard School. She joined St.
Paul Disciple No. I Church, where she was a faithful and devoted member.
She was a member of the Usher Board and Missionary Circle. She loved to
cook for the church. She loved people. Her hobbies included: fishing,
cooking, working in the garden, eating vegetables, sewing, working in the
yard and she loved to go, go, go to places.
Her very special friends were: Sis. Beulah Tuck, Sis. Annette Harris
Boykin both of Zebulon, North Carolina, Elgie
Williams of Washington, D.C., Gladys Marks of McKinney Virginia and James
Ivey York, New York. In her early age, she was married to the late Jessie
W. Bass from Granville County. One child, Annie Jean Bass, was born. She
later married William Baker from Philadelphia. He also preceded her in
death. She is survived by six children: Annie J. Moore (James) of Zebulon,
N.C., Curtis Baker (Chong) of Fayetteville, N.C., Hallie Viola Baker of
Brooklyn, N.Y., Diane Baker of the home in Zebulon, N.C., Darlene Elizabeth
Baker of Wendell, N.C. and Beverly Joyce Fogg (Robert) of Franklinton,
N.C.; one brother, Alfred Windfteld of
Williamsburg, Va.; one godson, Johnnie Brown of Fayetteville, N.C.; four
grandchildren, James Moore, Jr. of Forestville, Md., Ecia
Baker of Brooklyn, N.Y., Terry Lee Baker of Lumberton, N.C., Jo Ann Baker
of Pensacola, Fla.; two great grandchildren, Cheryl Baker and Nastashia Minukene both of
Brooklyn, N.Y.; one sister-in-law, Candi McPhatil
of Snow Hill, N.C. and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends.
