Shirley Marie Lane, was born in Washington, DC to the late Theola and Barrett Smith on April 26, 1949. She departed this life on Friday, August 22, 70L4 at Georgetown University Hospital. Shirley was educated in the District of Columbia Public Schools; she carpeted a nursing program at Georgetown University Hospital! and later attended The University of the District of Columbia. She worked for the Prince George's County Public School System for 33 years until she retired in 2004.
Shirley u/as a dedicated wife, mother, and friend who loved the Lord. She was a fun-loving person who loved her family, and enjoyed cooking and entertaining in her home. One of her strongest attributes was to spend countless hours on the telephone. lf you were in a rush, you shouldn’t have called Shirley. She adored her grandchildren and poured her heart out to everyone she could help in anyway. Her favorite past-time was getting together with family and friends eating and singing. She loved shopping at Giant, Safeway, Simms, Ross, Macy's, Williamsburg or anywhere she could find a good bargain.
Shirley was a faithful! and committed member of Central! Baptist Church of Camp Springs, MD for 47 years. Shirley's involvement at Central included the following: member of the Central Gospel Lites; Directress of the Vacation Bible School; member of the Senior Usher Board; Directress of the Jr. Usher Mlnistry; Head of the First Building Fund Committee for the 2250 Minnesota Avenue location; Vice President of the Wives’ Curb since organized in 1981; member of the Women’s Club, member of the Deaconess Ministry, member of the Birthday Club; and a mentor to many.
Cherished memories will live on in the hearts of her loving husband, Burnut L. Lane; children: Tracy Posey {Leon} and Tremell Lane; Grandchildren: Malcolm, Maya, Marcus, Moses, lmani, Airece Tremell, Jr., Andrea great-grandchildren: Alana and Khailyn; sisters: Patricia Scales {Samuel} and Nancy Fogg; cousin: Gloria Haywood (Fred}; nieces: Sherry Fogg; Beatrice Haywood; great nephews: Byron Howard and Dion Fogg; great niece: Keena Galloway; and sister-in-laws; Mable Wade, Betty Alsobrooks, Lynda Brown-Hall, Johnetta Brown and Gwen Prout; and a host of other relatives and frien |
