Mazie Elizabeth Posey was born on Wednesday, November 13, 1929 at Gallinger Hospital in Washington, DC to the late Berdell and Jeannette Easton Washington
Mazie was the oldest of six siblings. Mazie received her education from the District of Columbia public schools. when her father passed away on February 2, 1940, the Washington family fell into deep financial trouble. In December 1946, her mother, Jeannette Washington became very ill and required surgery. Mazie dropped out of high school to financially assist her mother and siblings. Mazie worked as a homemaker in the homes of the Knox and Schweitzet families. Mr. Schweitzer was impressed with the instructions Mazie gave his daughters regarding mannerism and study habits. He also took notice of her various hobbies: sewing, reading, playing dominos, checkers and listening to classical music. when Mr. Schweitzer encouraged Mazie to go back to school, she informed him that she could only attend during the evening sessions, which will prevent her from finishing her obligation to his daughters. Mr. Schweitzet told Mazie that was just another excuse; therefore, he provided her with a car. Mazie finished school, graduated with honors from Armstrong High School as one of the top seven of her class. on the day of her graduation, Mazie became disappointed and saddened that her mother was unable to attend' As Mazie walked in the procession, she was so elated when she recognized her uncle, Irving Washington, her boss, Mr. Schweitzer and her pastor, the late Bishop Henry C. Brooks sitting in the audience. In 1952, Mazie was introduced to her soul mate, Calvin L. Posey by her girlfriend Dorothy posey while attending the evening service at way of the Cross church on 4ft and Virginia Avenue, SE. Their courtship was interrupted because Calvin was drafted into the Army' Years later, Mazie worked as a dispatcher for the capitol cab company. Calvin and Mazie's paths crossed once again. They began to rekindle their relationship and vowed never to be separated from one another. on Friday, June 3, 1983, Mazie and Calvin were united together in Holy Matrimony by her pastor and brother, the late Bishop Leroy Washington. Much to her delight, the Lord granted Mazie with the family she greatly desired.
At age 14, on Palm Sunday, April 18th, 1943 Mazie was baptized by the late Bishop Henry C. Brook, receiving the precious gift of the Holy Ghost seven months later. Being the industrious person she was, she became an usher, choir member and the assistant president of the Young People Union, serving alongside the president Brother Roscoe Snead. The Young People's Union (which is now the Youth for Christ) participated in various activities, performing various plays especially during the Easter and Christmas Holidays. In 1989, Calvin informed Mazie that he would like for them to join and assist her brother, the late Bishop Leroy Washington, with his ministry. Mazie was an avid Bible reader and wanted to understand and rightly divide God's Word. This prompted her to attend and become a member and graduate of the Way of the Cross Church Apostolic Bible College, under the tutelage of Dr. Ronald Frazier. Once again working diligently side-by-side with her husband, Mazie became deeply involved with working the ministry by teaching Sunday school. Later, she became the chairperson of the Building Fund Drive; president of the Usher Board; member of the Love Choir; Women's Chorus; Pastor's Aid; Floral Club; Women of God's Tapestry and the Prayer Band. Additionally, she assisted her husband with the Kitchen and Transportation Committees.
