Magdalene (Royster) Peace, a lifetime resident of Jersey City, NJ entered
her eternal rest on Saturday, January 12, 2012 at her residence. She was
the daughter of the late Henry and Mattie (Smith) Royster and Mrs. Grizel (Perry) Royster (step-mother)
"Mother Peace", as she was fondly known, was born on July 18,
1911 in Oxford, NC. Mary spent her childhood there and was educated in the
Oxford school system before moving to Jersey City, NJ to raise her family.
Mary was the loving and devoted wife of 66 years to a great man of God,
the late Rev. Robert L. Peace. She was the mother of six children: Beatryce Ashby (James), Anna West Strother (Rufus),
Mary Dabney (Edward), Alphonso Peace (Alberta) and predeceased by children,
Roger Peace (Mae) and Robert (Bobby) Peace (Marian). Mary and Robert were
also the caring foster parents of Wilbert and Shirley Jackson and George
and James Reid.
Mary, "Sis", was the supportive and proud sister to Rev. Mark
Royster (Phyllis), Bessie Royster, Mary McGhee (TeLessie),
Adlene Glover, Vernell Anderson (Melvin), and
predeceased by siblings: Beatrice Ellis, William Royster, Henry Earthy
Royster and Jessie Royster. She was the sister-in-law to Nannie Ruth and
Polly Royster.
She was the grandmother of 27, great-grandmother of 50, great-great
grandmother of 48 and great-great-great grandmother of 1.
At the age of 9, Mary accepted Christ into her life and has been a
dedicated Christian for 91 years and a member of the Orient Church of God
in Jersey City, NJ for more than 60 years.
