Larry Robert Stokes,
Sr., son of Mrs. Lenora Simmons Stokes and the late William McAdoo Stokes,
was born August 18, 1947 in Washington, D. C. His formal education was received in the
public schools of Washington, D. C. He furthered his education at Howard
University in Washington, D. C. While in school, he excelled in sports and
his outgoing personality was one of his great traits. He served his country
in the U. S. Air Force from 1972 until 1974. Upon his fathers's
retirement in 1984, he moved to North Carolina and made his home in
Middlesex. On Thursday, January 26, 1989 he departed this life.
He leaves to mourn his passing: one son, Larry Stokes, Jr. of
Baltimore, Maryland; his mother, Mrs. Lenora Stokes of the home; two
sisters, Mrs. Juanita Thompson of District Heights, Maryland and Mrs. Bette
Jo Speight of Alexandria, Virginia; one brother, Maurice Stokes of the
home; four aunts; four uncles; many other relatives and friends.
Human hands have tried to save thee, Sighs and tears were all in
vain. Happy angels came and bore
thee, From the weary world of pain.
