Missionary Dorothy M. Posey
began her earthly life on Thursday, November 17, 1932 in Washington, D.C.
She was the eighth of fifteen children born to the late Sam and Emma
Greene. She grew up in Northeast. D.C. and was educated in the public
school system of the District of Columbia. She attended Burrville
Elementary, Browne Junior High and Cardozo High Schools. She later received
a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology from the Way of the Cross Church's
Apostolic Christian College. In addition, she completed several courses
with the Evangelical Training Association (E.T.A.). At the age of 10, while
attending Berryville Elementary School, Missionary Posey met her childhood
sweetheart and future husband. the late Charles T. Posey. They were joined
in holy matrimony the day after her eighteenth birthday, November 18, 1950.
Together they were the proud parents of five lovely daughters. She was a
faithful wife to her husband and a devoted mother to her children. She
looked well to the ways of her household, and her husband did praise her.
She believed in Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way that he
should go and when he is old he shall not depart." She taught her
children about God, His great plan of salvation and the way of holiness.
Her children rose up and callede her "blessed." In the home, she
never found time to be idle. She believed in cooking fresh meals from
scratch for her family everyday and always maintained an immaculate home.
Although she was a homemaker for most of her married life, she worked briefly
in retail, childcare and caregiver positions throughout the Washington D.C.
area. Charles and Dorothy were blessed with over fifty seven years of
marriage at the time of his death in January 2008. She was proud to say
"I've been married to the same man for all these years, with no
sweethearts on the side. Missionary
Posey was a fixture in the Riverdale community for 42 years. She was well
loved and was known as "Grandma" by the neighborhood children. She
never hesitated to stretch out her hands to the poor and reach forth her
hand to the needy. In addition, she loved to witness to others about the
Love of God. In addition to her
natural family, Missionary Posey was born into The Way of the Cross Church
of Christ family and remained a member her entire life. She was proud to
note that she was christened by the church's founder, the late Bishop Henry
C. Brooks and that Bishop Brooks' sister, Mother Leola Hamilton, was her
godmother. She loved God with all her soul and with all her might. Her walk
with the Lord began when she was just five years old. It was then that she
began to attend Sunday school and learn about the goodness of the Lord. At
the age of twelve, she accepted Jesus as her personal Savior and obeyed
God's word and was baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ, in accordance to
Acts 2:38, by the late Elder Thaddeus Torrence. She received the precious
gift of the Holy Ghost with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues, at
the age of fifteen. She loved her pastor, the Way of the Cross Church and
all of the saints of God. She was an active faithful worker of the Way of
the Cross Church. For approximately 20 years, she served as a Church
Announcement Clerk and was involved in the following auxiliaries throughout
the years: The Sunshine Band, Young People's Union, Junior Choir (later
known as the Sanctuary Choir), The Angelic Choir, The Way of the Cross
Chorus, Consoling Choir, Pastor's Choir, Missionary Choir, Willing Workers
and the Faith Club. In addition she held the following off ices: Vice President
and Secretary, Junior Usher Board (later known as the Sanctuary Ushers);
President, 10 14 Girls Club; Teacher, Vacation Bible School; President,
Floral Club; Directress, Cherubim choir; Directress, Senior Choir and
Devotion Director & Assistant Teacher Sunday School Department.
Missionary Posey believed in holiness, being faithful and living a life
totally dedicated and committed to God. At the time of her death, she was
the President of the Senior Missionary Department, the Directress of the
Gospel Chorus, Petty Treasurer of the Sunday School Department, Member of
the Women's Council, Golden Age Ministry, Pastor's Aide and Gideon 300
Clubs. She would always say "I'm not going to rust out but wear out
working for Jesus" and that she did! She had two desires in life: (1)
to see her entire family saved; and (2) to have the Lord say, 'Well done,
thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things,
I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the Joy of thy
Lord." On the evening of
Wednesday, November 5, 2008, Missionary Posey, our family matriarch, went
home to be with the Lord. Prior to entering eternal life, Missionary Posey
stated "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have
kept the faith." (11 Timothy 4:7) She was truly regarded as a woman of
God, of the highest standard, by those she loved and served. She will be
greatly missed! She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Barbara E.
Powell (David), Dennese P. Teele (William), Robin Hope Williams (Romulus)
and Kimberly Meyer Chambers, twelve grandchildren, twenty two great
grandchildren and six great great grandchildren, three brothers, Jerome
(Minnedore), Raymond, and Wilbert (Geraldine) Green and a host of others
