On the morning of
January 21, 1987, the Angel of Silence came into North Central Hospital,
Bronx, New York and sealed the lips of Mrs. Dorothy Shermell
Gales.
Mrs. Dorothy Shermell Gales, daughter of the
late Reed Gales and Flora Gales Burrell, was born January 20, 1922 in
Granville County, North Carolina.
At an early age she confessed her faith in
Christ and joined Ilong Baptist Church. She
served on the usher board of the church. She was married to the late Lenwood Taylor and this union was blessed with three
children. Later in life she moved to New York City and joined Day Star
Baptist Church where she also served on the usher board. She was employed
for Book Binding Company for over twenty years, where declining health
caused her to retire. After her retirement she
returned home and continued worshipping at her home church, Ilong Baptist. She leaves to cherish her memory, a
father, Mr. Herbert Burrell of Norfolk, Virginia; two daughters, Mrs. Jean
Delois Bembry of Freeport, New York, and Mrs.
Flora Lorraine Barnes of the Bronx, New York; one son Mr. Jessie L. Taylor
of Norfolk, Virginia; one son-in-law, Mr. William Bembry
of Freeport, New York; three aunts, Mrs. Rachael Peace of Oxford, North
Carolina, Mrs. Annie B. Taylor of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Mrs. Ida
Brandon of Baltimore, Maryland; one uncle, Mr. George Peace of Oxford,
North Carolina; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a host
other relatives and friends.
