Mr. Booker Thedore Stokes, son of the late Theopolis
and Anna Stokes, was born November 27, 1918 in Middlesex, North Carolina
and departed this life Sunday March 15, 1987 in Hampton, Virginia. He joined Stokes Chapel Baptist Church
at an early age. Booker T. fought in World War 11 and
served with the 92nd. Infantry Combat Division. He fought in Italy and
France. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Sharp Shooter medal ' Good Conduct
Medal, American Theater Ribbon and World War 11 Victory Medal and was honorably
discharged as a Disabled Veteran.
He also taught agriculture at Spaulding High School in Spring Hope,
North Carolina. He worked for a while with the Commerce Department in
Washington, D.C. He retired from the Navy Observatory. After retiring from
Civil Service, he made his home in Hampton, Virginia. He leaves to moum:
his wife, Mable; three sons, Larry Wayne and Dennis of Hampton, Virginia
and Barney of Washington, D.C.; one sister, Janis Southall
of East Liverpool, Ohio; three brothers, Oliver of Durham, Theopolis, Jr. of Greensboro and William MacAdoo of Middlesex; other relatives and many friends.
